Summary
Banje Beach
It’s the closest beach to Old Town that makes it a convenient beach and it’s also the beach with the best views of the walls of Dubrovnik. Lokrum island may also be seen here. Part of the beach charges an entrance fee, but there’s also a part for the public and it’s more relaxed and livelier.
Old Harbor of Dubrovnik
Situated in Dubrovnik’s eastern section, Old Port is basically protected by 2 breakwaters, which include Porporela and Kase. In seafaring heyday of Dubrovnik, the ports were established around the harbor’s perimeter to guard the ships of the city. At present, Old Port is both a departure point for the cruises and a tourist attraction.
Franciscan Monastery
Situated near Pile Gate at the west end of Stradun, Franciscan Monastery is the home to the oldest pharmacy in Europe. While majority of the original construction of the church was destroyed by the 1667 earthquake, its Romanesque cloister as well as gardens greet visitors as much the same as they were centuries ago.
Pile Gate
Pile Gate is the busiest entrance to the walled Old Town of Dubrovnik, which is 2 gates in one. The outer gate comes with an arch made to a semi-circular fortification. The gate stand is open 24/7.
Fort Lovrijenac
Nestled on a towering rock that overlooks Adriatic Sea, Fort Lovrijenac was built as detached fortress to repel the attackers from both sea and land. The original structure was said to be constructed in 1301. Its staggered terraces and triangle shape were made to accommodate the rock’s shape. The fortress was very impenetrable that it might be held by a garrison. These days, it’s a famous attraction around the city and plays host to different cultural events. It is also a backdrop in some Game of Thrones scenes.
Stradun
Most of Dubrovnik was destroyed in 1667 because of an earthquake. However, reconstruction has the city the opportunity to rebuild with organized scheme. Rows of shops and baroque homes that line the main thoroughfare of Dubrovnik are the lasting result of its careful planning. Stradun is a wonderful street where visitors may shop for souvenirs, join local for a stroll, and enjoy a delicious ice cream at the sidewalk café.
